General Mills and MyBlogSpark Reviw + {GIVEAWAY}

Winner of week 1 giveaway is Lindsay at The Berteau Life! Congrats!

I got a bit carried away in the craziness of last week, so this week I'm playing catch-up and there will be 2 winners!

I've been a big cereal fan for all of time, but am continually surprised by all these stats! Cereal is totally good for you! I am feeling better and better about my midnight bowl in bed. Here is some info that surprised me.

Week 2 - The Truth Behind the Bowl
Week 2 prize pack is 6 sample boxes of cereal along with 4 kid friendly spoons and 4 Crate and Barrel bowls!

Did you know?
  • Cereal is lower in calories and higher in nutrition than many other breakfast options like bagels with cream cheese and pancakes?
  • A 2009 study of children aged 6 to 18 shows cereal eaters have healthier body weights than those who don´t eat cereal, regardless of sweetness level.
  • Cereal eaters consume less fat than non-cereal eaters.
  • Not all cereals are equal and it´s important to read the labels -- General Mills is proud of its commitment to reduce sugar in all of its kids´ cereals to single-digit levels per serving.
  • General Mills has more than 30 nutritious cereals with 130 calories or less per serving.
Week 3 - Taste and Nutrition in Breakfast Choices
Week 3 prize pack is 6 sample size boxes of cereal and this awesome cereal dispenser! We already have ours filled and are loving it!

Did you know?
  • Cereal is a great breakfast option because it is the number one dietary source of many key nutrients including iron, zinc and folic acid. Frequent cereal eaters tend to have better nutrient intakes.
  • A typical breakfast contributes more than 30 percent of needed calcium, iron and B vitamins while delivering less than 20 percent of daily calories.
  • In addition, ready-to-eat cereal is the top source of whole grain in kids´ diets.
Big G is the only leading line of kids' cereals to contain at least 8 grams of whole grain (48 grams recommended daily) and a good source of both calcium and vitamin D in every serving. In addition, cereal is an inexpensive but nutrient-dense option. On average, a bowl of cereal with milk is approximately 50 cents per serving.

Healthy Breakfast Options {GIVEAWAY} Week 1

General Mills has teamed up with MyBlogSpark to spread the word about the benefits of kid's cereal. Once a week, I will host a giveaway for a fun cereal theme prize pack!

This week is all about healthy breakfast options. General Mills commissioned a survey of D.C.area parents to uncover their children's eating habits, as well as what they deem important to help ensure their children grow up healthy. As parents strive to make smart food choices, nearly all (97 percent) agree it's important for their children to eat breakfast and four out five (86 percent) say cereal is a healthy breakfast choice.

What do you look for in a good breakfast for your child? The survey found these results:

81 percent cited good flavor as important
60 percent want a breakfast packed with vitamins and minerals
59 percent look for convenient options
40 percent want a breakfast option that is low in fat
We are huge cereal fans around here. Cooper and I often eat it for breakfast and lunch. Coop doesn't drink milk so I love that he gets some in his cereal! A 2009 study found that children who eat cereal have significantly higher intakes of whole grain, folate, calcium, iron, fiber, zinc and several other nutrients. I have noticed so many cereals lately adding in more nutrients. Makes me feel so good that I'm "sneaking" them in!

This weeks giveaway:
The winner of this week's giveaway will receive 10 sample cereal boxes and an insulated milk pitcher. Cooper has thoroughly enjoyed the "continental breakfast" we've had going on this week!

Freschetta by the Slice Review + {GIVEAWAY}

Winner of the Dayspring giveaway is #20 who is Anash! Congratulations!

Pizza is about a once a week kindof food around our house. Since I've been pregnant and not cooking much, my boys have been eating quite a bit more of it. I was really excited about Freschetta's new Pizza by the Slice because since we are a small family, we never go through a whole pizza. How nice to just have one slice? Brilliant, I tell you.

I have to admit I was a bit skeptical about pizza in the microwave. Oh, so easy, yes, but good? Well, the answer to that is yes, too! The crust was actually crispy. It is a thinner crust (NY style just like we like it around here!) with a good variety of toppings and each family member can choose what they want!

Freschetta by the Slice is available in:
BBQ Recipe Chicken (My fave)
Vegetable Medley
Chicken, Spinach and Mushroom
Six Cheese Medley

Freschetta also sent me a set of plastic food storage containers with snap locking lids to store any leftover pizza. I love the snap locking lids because they keep food so much fresher and these are embossed with the Freschetta logo, of course.

Want to win your own Freschetta 3 piece storage set and a coupon to try Freschetta by the Slice for free?

Cottonelle Sponsored Date Night + {GIVEAWAY}

Cottonelle challenged us to make the Ultra Switch and go out on a date night! Their new campaign along with The Millionaire Matchmaker, Patti Stanger, had us wined and dined all long!

Jean Georges is a restaurant in NYC that we ate at before we got engaged and went back to for our 5th Anniversary. When we found out the same owner has opened a restaurant in DC, we knew that is where we had to go. A car came and picked us up and took us into DC. It was so fun to just be the passengers!
This is the living room of the gorgeous W hotel where we waited for our reservation time.
And the inside of J&G Steakhouse. Chic, elegant and gorgeous views of the Washington Monument.
The food was amazing. Hubs raved about the wine. The service was great, but the company was the best of all. It has been so long since we went on a date night and to have one this fancy and fun made it even more awesome.

Go check out my previous post to see all the tips and tricks to make the Ultra Switch in your relationship!
Want to get in on the excitement? Now through May 1, 2011, you can enter to win one of 90 prizes in 90 days from Cottonelle's Ultra Switch. You can win things like a digital camera, couples massage, dance lessons or luxury bedding.

Cottonelle Ultra Blogger Date NIght!

Back in February, I had the opportunity to be on a live WebEx with Patti Stanger of The Millionaire Matchmaker. (Eeeek!) I was jittery the whole time even though she couldn't see me. Patti has teamed up with Cottonelle's Ultra Switch Program to encourage people to switch it up in your relationship.

Here are a few of Patti's tips:

1. Surprise your partner. Make a favorite meal or leave a note on the nightstand. Just make it personal.

2. Get out. Commit to going on one date night a month. Just get out away from the kids and other distractions.

3. Pamper each other. Massages will bring you closer physically and emotionally.

4. Learn together. Take a cooking class. Develop a new hobby. Its a nice way to grow together.

I decided to try some of these, especially the date night part since we have been really lazy in planning our nights out. Cottonelle contacted me about going on a night on the town, complete with car service and you better believe I jumped all over that! So, tonight is our big night! We haven't been on a date night in...ummm...can't remember, so I am thrilled!

Want to get in on the excitement? Now through May 1, 2011, you can enter to win one of 90 prizes in 90 days from Cottonelle's Ultra Switch. You can win things like a digital camera, couples massage, dance lessons or luxury bedding.
Open to residents of U.S. and Canada 21 and older. Visit www.cottonelleultraswitch.com for official sweepstakes and rules.

What more winning chances? After the date night, I will be giving away a 3 month supply of Cottonellle Ultra to one of you readers!

I will be posting a recap of all the awesome next week. Tonight we are headed to DC for dinner and maybe we'll even go wild and see a movie. Yeehaw!

I recieved gift cards to cover expenses, car service and product from Cottonelle. I was in no other way compensated for this post.

Nutella Party by Mommy Parties!

I was contacted by Mommy Parties to host a Nutella party at my house. Umm, Nutella sent to me complete with goodie bags and coupons? SIGN.ME.UP.

We have neighborhood playgroup every Friday and it was my turn to host. I told everyone to skip breakfast!
Nutella is amazing on whole wheat bagels and these mini ones were perfect for the little fingers at playgroup. I think everyone loved the strawberries and bananas with Nutella. Awesome way to get the kiddos to eat fruit!
Pretzels + Nutella = Awesomesauce.
Oh, the spreader. Perfection for layin it on thick.
Did you know that Nutella is peanut, gluten and wheat free?
Everyone got goodie bags with samples and coupons.
And Cooper and I snacked on the leftovers all morning. Yum.
The key to enjoying Nutella is the appropriate serving amount. 1-2 Tbsps on whole wheat or fruit creates a balanced breakfast. Since the best breakfast is one that is eaten, go ahead and put some on your favorite breakfast food and get a good start on the day!
